Val Rusk is a Partner with Continuum Legal Group, where she combines her deep expertise in employment law with practical experience as the manager of a global team to guide organizations through complex workplace challenges. With over twenty-five years of experience spanning litigation, in-house counsel, and global business operations, Val provides strategic, business-minded legal counsel to employers ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses. Her practice focuses on Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, PWFA, restrictive covenants, contingent workforce matters, internal investigations, and executive-level employment agreements. Notably, she served as the sole accommodations legal advisor for a multi-state employer navigating COVID-19 vaccine mandates and return-to-worksite policies, ensuring compliance while minimizing disruption and legal risk. Val is also adept at conducting sensitive internal investigations, balancing legal rigor with empathy, and has successfully orchestrated complex departmental reorganizations, aligning operational goals with risk mitigation.
For most of her legal career, Val supported Turner Broadcasting System as in-house employment counsel and held an executive role at CNN where she served as Vice President of Business Operations & Administration. As in-house counsel Val’s work included mitigating risks related to employment, intellectual property, data privacy, and corporate tax, as well as negotiating high-profile hiring and exit agreements for on-air and executive talent. At CNN International Val led global business and administrative operations for newsgathering, sports, and production teams, collaborating with legal, HR, finance, compliance, tax, real estate, and other corporate functions worldwide. Earlier in her career, she practiced as a Labor & Employment Litigation Associate at Ford Harrison LLP, representing medium to large employers. Her pragmatic approach and dedication to excellence make her an invaluable resource for clients navigating the complexities of employment law and HR.
Outside of work, Val enjoys hiking, reading, and indulging in mindless reality television. She can often be found unwinding with her rescue mutt, husband, and 2 kids, preferably outdoors, where she recharges for the next challenge.
